ALL IN THE FAMILY

My love for interior design began before I could walk.
My grandparents started their own drapery business in 1966, and all of their children grew up working for them. All six siblings worked day and night cutting, tabling, sewing, folding, bagging and hanging draperies (that’s an over simplification of the drapery making process for sure). While my uncles got out as soon as they could, my mom and aunt continued in the family business with my Grandma and Poppy (Grandpa). After my Poppy passed away in 1980, it was just the three of them in “The Shop.” That moniker was coined way back when and now that's what everyone calls it.

Daycare wasn’t really an option when my sister, cousins and I were born, so every day was “take-your-kid-to-work” day. My cousin Mel and I were the same age and grew up in The Shop. We had to try and find ways to keep ourselves busy while our moms worked. For fun, we tied many cardboard fabric rolls together to play telephone, tied fabric remnant strings to rocks and threw them up in the air and called them “rockets,” made clothes for our Cabbage Patch Kids and Barbies from leftover fabric, and made friendship bracelets from spools of colorful thread…just to name a few! The Shop was like our playground.

It was through all of the time I spent out there that I developed a passion for fabrics, textures, styles and possibilities. I think I made my first pillow when I was 10, and as a teenager, I was constantly redesigning my bedroom.
My passion for interior design has just blossomed from there and now, every room is my canvas.
In addition to my graphic and interior freelance work, I also work a few days in The Shop each week. My mom and I work together to create draperies, window treatments, bedding, pillows, tablecloths, cushions and more!
