As some of you may have noticed, I took a four-month hiatus from all things social media and blog. I was feeling a need to unplug and connect with myself again.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND
2023 was a year of newness for me. I left my VP job after 14 years and ventured out on my own as a freelance designer, plus, I ended my 11-year relationship with my boyfriend. I was in definite need of change in my life, nothing was vibing anymore.
Something inside me was telling me to “jump,” so I trusted this voice, and did just that.
It turns out that leaving my job was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am so much happier and in more alignment with myself now. And, while ending my relationship with my boyfriend was tough, I realized that I needed to be happier and more aligned in my personal life as well.
UNPLUGGED
My goal while being “unplugged” was to be more present and engaged in my daily life. I made more time for hobbies, learning new things and spending uninterrupted time with loved ones. I felt myself being more focused, productive and content. I definitely recommend it for any of you that are feeling stuck or in a rut.
WHAT I DID DURING MY DISCONNECT
Here are a few things that I learned/did/practiced during these four months.
1 : Reading
I decided to take up reading before bed each night, and I can’t tell you how happy this practice has made me! I purchased four books on Amazon to start my journey.

“Self-Love Workbook for Women” is an in-depth workbook made specifically for women to release self-doubt, build self-compassion and embrace who you truly are. I love that it was geared toward women, because as women, the expectations and societal pressures we face are so much different than those that men do, especially when you are a mother. It really helped me realize how hard I am on myself and I now work daily to love and embrace myself.
“Ask and It Is Given” is an amazing book about how to manifest my own desires. It really changed my life and made me re-think how I think! While I’ve always believed in manifestations and the power of the universe, it turns out I was doing it all wrong...it's all about vibrations. A definite must-read!
“The Law of Attraction” is a book in the same series as “Ask and It Is Given” and goes deeper into the law of attraction (something that you will learn a lot about with the book above). Again, a must read!
"To better understand the Law of Attraction, see yourself as a magnet attracting unto you the essence of that which you are thinking and feeling. And so, if you are feeling fat, you cannot attract thin. If you feel poor, you cannot attract prosperity, and so on. It defies Law."
- An excerpt from the book "The Law of Attraction"
“369 Manifesting Journal” is a sort of workbook that unlocks the mathematical magic hidden in the numbers 3, 6 and 9. Who knew?
2 : Sweating/Meditating

While many people see my single-person sauna and laugh at the idea of me sweating in this tiny tent, it truly is the best purchase I have ever made, and my favorite thing to do each day. I sit in there with the steam set to high for 35-40 minutes, while I listen to music and meditate. I focus on my breathing and positive thoughts, and sometimes I just sing to music the entire time. It is my "me" time to do anything I want. Not only is it good for relaxation, it is also wonderful for stress relief, lowering blood pressure, detoxification, pain reduction, anti-aging, skin rejuvenation, improved cardiovascular function, improved immune function and improved sleep. Plus, I think it burns quite a few calories too!
3 : Shooting

During my unplugged journey, I wanted to learn something new that I have always wanted to try, but never have – shooting lessons. This was an amazing experience! My beautiful cousin and her husband took my daughter, mom and I out into the desert to teach us. It was quite a liberating and freeing experience and I can’t wait to continue the lessons.
4 : Watching

And lastly, I watched a lot of movies (at least one per day)! This may seem silly, but I haven’t watched a movie at home without looking at my phone at the same time in a long time. Whether I was checking email or browsing Instagram or Pinterest, I would always have my phone right next to me or in my hand for the entire movie. So, I put my phone down and was present while watching many of the movies on my lists in various apps. I found that I had a deeper appreciation of what I was watching, plus it was a more enjoyable experience.
I encourage everyone to unplug, even if it is for a short amount of time. You’ll be surprised of how present, happy and fulfilled you are. Here’s to a new chapter and good vibes only in 2024!
