Most people who know me know I have an affinity (or slight obsession) with The Golden Girls.

I used to watch it with my 80-year-old grandmother, and she would laugh the entire time. I didn’t really get it because I was so young. Watching it now, I realize how wildly inappropriate and hilarious it actually is! As a 10-year-old, the mature and racy humor went completely over my head. Now when I watch it, I think to myself “Oh my God, I can’t believe my sweet grandmother watched this and thought it was funny!” But that’s why I love it so much!

From Sophia’s sarcastic remarks to her daughter, to calling Blanche “a human mattress,” it really is one of the best TV series ever.

You’re probably thinking, “What in the world does this have to do with design?”

Well, while I appreciate the humor, I also appreciate the interior design of the home Sophia, Dorothy, Blanche and Rose share. The following is a 3D set model recreated by Dwayne Burgess.

The style is an eclectic mix of rattan, wicker, tropical prints, peach/coral, turquoise, Persian rugs, blue and white Asian-inspired vases, brass, bamboo dining chairs, pampas grass, terracotta vases and wallpaper in every room. Most of these elements have made a comeback in one form or another over the years.

I began to wonder...what would the living room look like today? So I redesigned it!

How fun would it be to have a living room that looked like this? The eclectic mix of patterns, textures and colors really give The Golden Girls vibe, without looking like you're stuck in the 80s.
